Joyful, joyful we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of Love! Hearts unfold like flow'rs before thee, Praising thee, their sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, Drive the gloom of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day.

HYMN: JOYFUL, JOYFUL WE ADORE THEE

Music: "Hymn to Joy" from Ninth Symphony by Beethoven (1770-1827)
Text: Henry van Dyke, 1852-1933

1.
Joyful, joyful we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of Love!
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before thee,
Praising thee, their sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
Drive the gloom of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day.

2.
All thy works with joy surround thee,
Earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around thee,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird, and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in thee

3.
Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Well-spring of the joy of living,
Ocean-depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother,
All who live in love are thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine!

4.
Mortals join the mighty chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o'er us,
Joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strafe;
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life.

LET'S CELEBRATE GOD'S LOVE FOR US

O quanta qualia sunt illa sabbata,
Quae semper celebrat superna curia.

O how great and glorious are those sabbaths which the heavenly court for ever celebrates!

Peter Abelard 1079-1142 Hymnus Paraclitensis

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Lord make me an instrument of Thy peace; where there is hatred let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

Oh Lord, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
